The cost to build a geothermal power plant today, is now less expensive compared to a coal or nuclear plant and wind farms are not far behind. This represents a vast improvement compared to just 10 years ago. The renewable power sector has been aided by industry decisions to choose standard designs, leading to substantially reduced construction costs.  And momentum is growing – in 2008, the United States will institute a carbon cap and trade system, which will force conventional emitters to subsidize additional green power providers and further accelerate the move to green power.
